Just a tech enthusiast/electrical engineer who is lucky enough to be in the first mainland NBN (National Broadband Network) trial site, in Brunswick, Victoria, Australia.

For those that don't already know, progress is well under way to connect the first 2600 premises in Brunswick to a fibre optic broadband network, as the first stage of a AUD$43 billion dollar federal labour government initiative.

The network will later in 2011 deliver speeds of 100Mbps downstream and 40Mbps upstream, and eventually speeds of 1000Mbps downstream and 400Mbps upstream.

The connection cost to customers in the trial zone is zero(unless you require internal ethernet cabling works) - and the ongoing costs look to be very favourable also. $59 per month looks likely to get you 100GB at full speed with iinet.

My photos document the installation process as seen from my neighbourhood. I do not profess to be an expert in fibre technologies, so please feel free to correct me if any of my captions are incorrect!

Thanks for your interest!
