I am an ornithologist who loves just about any wilderness experience that includes birds. I am captivated by Gulf of Maine ecology, especially island biogeography and the intricacies of coastal habitats. Cuba and the West Indies archipelago are connected to Mount Desert Island through our birds.... so each year I love celebrating Islands and the importance of them in the world as cradles of evolution and change.

The future of the world we leave for our children depends on stopping the disruptive forces of Habitat fragmentation through poor land use and development and ecological illiteracy so pervasive in post modern society. Stopping the ignorance of ecological illiteracy should be each Americans duty as a citizen of the world. Plastic in the environment in a global crisis responsible for countless seabird deaths every year. We must stop the illegal "Caged Bird Trade" in Cuba. By working with Cuban scientists and government officials, we hope to stop this detrimental practice to countless migratory species like Indigo and Painted Bunting. Northern Catbird, Northern Mockingbird and Cuban species like Cuban Bullfinch, Cuban Grassquit, Cuban Parrot and Parakeet. It is my hope to convey the importance of ornithology in politics through the images I present on this Flickr site. Thank you
