Much of my career was spent writing about historic buildings. My publications included 24 editions of the English Heritage Monitor, 23 editions of Sightseeing in the UK, English Cathedrals and Tourism, which was the subject of debate in the House of Lords in 1980, English Churches and Visitors, Preservation Pays, Preserve and Prosper, the two latter publications having been written with Marcus Binney for SAVE Britain's Heritage, and many articles. Now that I am retired I concentrate on photographing historic buildings. Another obsession is horticulture. For many years I have made a note every Saturday of which plants have come into flower in my garden since the previous Saturday.
