I started taking photographs with a plastic box camera when I was about 10 years old. It wasn't until I was a teenager that my father handed me a Kodak Retina IIa with a GE light meter that I really began photography in earnest. He taught me the relationship between light, apature and shutter speed, but nothing on composition. I am self-taught in that regard. Years of studying other photographers and creating images that I like has given me a pretty good sense of style.

I worked primarily with slides in the beginning. When I was in graduate school, I had a darkroom available to me, so I ventured into the world of Black and White. I was using a Canon FTb 35mm camera at that point and occasionally a Graflex 4x5. Since then, I switched to Nikon (my wife had more lenses that I did).

For a number of years, family and other priorities kept me from photography. As I returned to it, I purchased a Rollieflex Twin Lens Reflex and shot in medium format, while my wife used a very small, but good Canon digital. I ventured into the digital world by purchasing a Nikon D80 a couple of years ago and haven't looked back since.

I hope you enjoy viewing my photos.
