Martin McKenna
Drag to set position!
My name is Martin McKenna, I'm from Maghera, N. Ireland and have been a keen amateur astronomer for many years with my main interest field being the visual observation of comets, comet hunting, aurorae, meteor showers/fireballs, NLCs and any spectacular transient event in the night sky. I also enjoy observing challenging subjects with a low surface brightness such as the Zodiacal Light and Gegenschein.
I was awarded IFAS astronomer of the year in 2005 and have the great honor of having an asteroid named after me designated 42531 McKenna.
I am also a very keen and active photographer and storm chaser with a strong passion for day and night storm photography and rare atmospheric phenomena such as moonbows. Capturing exciting weather events such as funnel clouds and hunting for that elusive N. Ireland tornado remain my primary passion however I am just as satisfied catching striking storm structures.
I run www.nightskyhunter.com and make a living from selling my photography and occasionally doing related articles for newspapers and magazines. If you are interesting in purchasing an image as a digital file or a print or canvas then contact me through the wesbite or at my email address at martinastro2005@hotmail.co.uk
I love the sky and intend on photographing it to the best of my ability for the rest of my life!
