''I think that the very earliest influence was a horror of having to work in a bank or office, a desire for a free and creative life'' - Frank Auerbach. This is something I also yearn for, the freedom to use creativity and imagination as a means of expressing oneself that one would perhaps not get in a menial job. Much like Auerbach, whose mysteriously eye-catching work was a brilliant testament to art's ability to shock and complex, I hope in the future (in whichever field of art I may work) to create work that confuses yet excites. I personally thrive in the creative environment art and design provides, so naturally I would benefit from the studying the subject at university.
However, I do not know exactly what area of art and design I should fully commit to. By having the opportunity to study on a foundation year I hope to be offered the chance to experiment with a wide range of materials in paint, sculpture and perhaps installation.
This should help me in terms of my future choices for future education in art and design. Drawing inspiration from the painter Lucian Freud, whom I believe was the physical embodiment of creativity, I wish to develop my skills as an artist. Moreover, I believe his awe inspiring focus and devotion will motivate me as a creative person in whichever area of art I choose to work.
Alongside painting, another great passion of mine is animation. This is due to the artistry involved in creating a perfectly dovetailing piece and the pride of seeing something that has taken so much care and effort becoming a brilliantly flowing animation. Yet, as I am enticed by numerous options in the area of art, I believe this course would be the perfect way of deciding my future.
