My name is SAM COATSWORTH

I am a Semi Pro Photographer . Meaning serious interest with occasional commissions.,.

I am a serious Am/Semi Pro Photographer. I like to fly in the face of the rules. I can't bring myself to OBEY the rule "you must stick to one subject matter to achieve" - Sorry I can't do that... One of my sayings is "To be creative and seek inspiration, one must sometimes resist the temptation to follow conventional rules of any art and just follow one's own instinct and style, only then you will get the audiences attention”

Definition of "Photographer" ?

a "person" who loves, is passionate about Taking Photographs and it's art"

Novice- A person who is trying out Photography ( L plate ) and only seeks knowledge and encouragement to see if it is "their bag"

Amateur Photographer - A Keen hobbyist, just enjoys the pass time.. and don't think they can't take good photographs...the great shots will over time out number the bad

Serious Amateur Photographer- Experienced , much more knowledge about Photography in general, or considerably more in one subject ..sometimes potential for being a Pro

Semi Professional- Very serious into photography and does occasional paid work/commissions and probably have a full time other ocupation often has an obstacles to entering full time Prof (such as costs equipment wise or other commitments ) or they are waiting and building up more experience and expanding portfolio before taking the plunge.

Professional Photographer.- like many professions the term professional term means they make a living out of the professions/subject - meaning people PAY for their results, so they have to be doing a good job or they can't pay the mortgage !

There is a saying Professional Photographers have... any one can (if they have the money !) get a high quality Digital SLR some kit, take some photos set up FB, and website and call themselves a Photographer.

True..but at the end of the day the TRUE JUDGES are the public..the sort of people that money spare would like to pay for the image in various formats..Digital Print canvas etc. If you making a living from your photography and your profit lets you pay for your outgoings with some left over. You are a Professional Photographer (as in full time)

the above descriptions are my "take" Perspective, my point of view .

I pursue this endeavor to express myself through the lens , as with many Photographers I have my own style when it comes to Photography methods and processing.

About me

I have had the Photography bug ever since my first camera at the age of 10 years old when my Parents got me a little snappy 110 camera. Since then with the exception of a 6 year break I have been doing Photography of varying types.

For the first half of my working life thus far , has been in Photographic Retail Specialists advising and selling the equipment.

For many years I was mainly into photographing Animals, Wildlife, Wildlife parks, Big cats, Birds of prey mainly. I donated many to Poole and Dorchester Hospital during the early 1990's. For the children.

I was also into Photography sports, including American Football, for which I also used to play for the Weymouth team along side my brother...

In sept 2010 after being out of the interest for a while during a period of sharing a Flat with a few mates mainly concentrating on my mates BAND, going down the beach, Mountain biking ,Kayaking, Socialising. In 2010 after 4 years of settling down into married life I got the return of the Photography [passion that was laying dormant beneath me.

I used to mainly take sports and or wildlife/wildlife park photography as I said before but.....years on now gaining more and more experience with Serious Digital cameras from using Film, as some rules not the same so it was a slightly new experience for me more so for the new subject matter I wanted to venture into, that being LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY, particularly as I never really did scenery/landscape photography so it was a learning curve, Photo shop used to intimidate me too, one day will master it, so not as much manipulation going on as you may think!! Though as I feel I need or want to do a process I will find out what I need to know.

in 2010 I re started my passion with a Panasonic G1 with a 14-45mm and a 100-300 mm lens.camera lens, and a SUPER wide angle 7-14mm ,

I chose this initially as I am a keen Motorcyclist and it is a neat compact SLR type camera .

A year and a half later I changed my main system to CANON EOS, a system I used for many years in the FILM days. I chose this due to the lens availability and Used equipment cost as well as choice.

Many years ago I had also done a few weddings mainly through people I knew or friend of friends etc. The first one where my Photographs were popular was when I was 14 years old at my much older cousins wedding. So many family and friends liked mine that the negatives went around the relatives for a year!!!

I will do the occasional commission and been known to do a wedding or two these days, once in a blue moon. I use my CANON D60, but also borrow/Hire EOS 5D2 body and L lenses for Weddings. I use those as I feel they deserve the clarity of an L lens, though I have to include the hire cost in my fee, though it is a lower fee than a full time Wedding Photographer until I build up my Portfolio of Weddings once again.

I use a SPEEDLIGHT 580EX Flashgun, which is AWESOME!!!! I want to expand into more people Photography , so I am going to do a few free shots of families, friends, a few portraits as I have a real bug to do much of this subject matter. I prefer outdoor natural light, or very soft flash.

I have kept my panny G1 camera with the 14-45mm lens, as it's my compact camera now LOL. I cannot get rid of it it is a stunning piece of kit and I have had some Cracking shots taken with it so It stays!!! The Durdle Door MARS Beach shot in my Jurassic collection was taken on that camera! So if you want to start or start again with Photography, you can now pick them up on Ebay for a song as been few models since...It's an amazing piece of kit !!!

I now have a Canon full fram EOS 6 D with three L lass Canon lenses. I still have the 60D though only use it when I need two bodies so I can have two types of lenses at the ready, though I want to have 2 full frames, thus money, lack of it, prevents at this time.

Many people do not realise what some Photographers go through to get the shot they want in the LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE subject. A Photographer will often turn up and park in the middle of nowhere , then walk, hike for 15 to 69 min in darkness (to get there for first light) , traverse dangerous coastline, where cliff falls, landslides are high risk, tides rising, it's not for the faint hearted I can tell you, there is always almost no phone signal ! The only other people who are up at that hour are fisherman !!!

I hope to go even better soon when I will be getting a Full Frame Dig SLR and some higher quality optics, so fingers crossed I can start to go even further with my work.

I want to try some artistic Photography involving a bit of outdoor theater , thus if anyone wants to be Photographed in a period costume, Ancient Armour etc, on location, with a cool back ground, like Corfe castle or Knowlton church.... I will be up for that, Mutual beneficial as you will have Photos supplied no charge on a usb stick and I can use images in my Portfolio !!

If anyone wants some inexpensive, or in some cases free Photography of themselves or pets or family, friends...(until my portfolio for people builds up then contact me and we can talk about what it is you would like.
