I used to do a lot of film photography back in the early 1980s and earned a few dollars developing slide shows that were set to music. Some of these shows involved nature photography and I spent a great deal of time photographing plant life and landscapes. While shooting, I became ever more curious about the ground surface underneath all that plant growth—asking myself questions like “Why are these plants growing here and not over there?” or “Why is the land shaped like that?”

Eventually, these thoughts led me back to school, so now I have a master’s degree in geology and earned the letters P.G. (Professional Geologist) after my name.

I started practicing photography again as a hobby in May of 2006 when I picked up a Nikon D50. In the effort to satisfy my current photographic, artistic, and/or scientific “interests”, I seem to be drawn to wherever water and the land surface meet. So this may explain why you see a large number of waterfall shots in my photostream. You’ll see I often get distracted, too and end up chasing lots of wildlife.

If you’ve read this far, thanks for stopping by. If you have any questions feel free to send a flickr mail.

All the best,

Robert
