Great public art connects people and places in exciting, beautiful ways. Stanton and I create context-driven sculptural works which are made meaningful by reflecting the histories and functions of the sites they occupy. Over the years we have enjoyed close, collaborative working relationships with design professionals, arts administrators, and project end-users to create artworks which are fully engaged with their sites.
We understand the challenges inherent in the development of architecturally-integrated artworks, and we work to effectively balance a project’s aesthetic, technical, and long-term maintenance needs within the constraints of a public art budget, and we have extensive experience working within the demands of a larger construction project’s timeline. We invite end-user participation in our design research process, and we think creatively about making artwork which becomes part of the fabric of its site.
We work in durable materials – cast bronze and glass, carved and cut stone, terrazzo, concrete, fabricated steel, and other materials, their selection driven by the needs of the site and the project. Our studio emphasizes green practices in the creation of artworks, including using recycled materials whenever possible, and avoiding toxic chemicals in sculptural production. We are strongly invested in creating works that are sustainable and low-impact in their long-term maintenance needs. Our 4,500 square foot studio is fully equipped for design work and a range of sculptural processes, including stone carving, pattern- and mold-making, welding, glass casting, and woodworking. The best civic artwork connects people and places in delightful ways. We believe in the worth of making things which are beautiful and shared.
