Now retired, I worked for the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Division of Nature Preserves from 1980 to 2013. My job there was largely related to natural area management, including prescribed fire and invasive species management, but also included other matters related to natural area inventory, preservation and administration. I was the supervisor of the Regional Ecologists who are the managers of the nature preserves within their respective regions of the state. Birds, amphibians, reptiles, botany, and natural communities are among my favorite areas of natural history interest.

My photos are largely close-ups of wildflowers and landscapes of natural communities. When opportunities arise, I take shots of many other natural history subjects. Although I mostly post natural history related photos, sometimes photos unrelated to natural history find their way here.

I was the principal photographer for the book "Orchids of Indiana" by my DNR colleague Michael Homoya (published 1993). That book is still available for $30 from the Indiana Academy of Science (www.indianaacademyofscience.org).

In addition to the orchid book, I have many photos in "The Natural Heritage of Indiana" edited by Marion Jackson. My photos have also appeared in a few other books and magazines through the years.

I live on 1.3 acres of land in northern Indianapolis. My yard is great habitat for many native plants, and includes a small woodlot with spring ephemeral wildflowers, and a planted "prairie" that varies from dry to wet. My yard is a Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation.
