I trained at Parsons School of Design in New York City and University of the Arts, London. I was born in Lincolnshire and spent most of my working life living and working in New York City and London. Initially, I worked in theatre ,but after moving back to Lincolnshire in 2003, I returned to my first love: painting. Painting is a great passion of mine. I love the way I feel when I am painting in my studio. Its like entering another world. I see all of my paintings as snapshots of a moment in time,be it past or present.
I work in a variety of media, from oil, acrylic and mixed media. I love soft, sensual oil pieces, but I work mostly with raw layers of acrylic paint and mixed media. I have no interest in realism. Some of my work is powerful and passionate, some is soft and sensual. Some of my work is definitely shocking, some of it isn't. I paint because it is what I love to do,...its as simple as that. I love large, vibrant pieces that fill a wall space, something you just cant help but look at!
My work is expressionist by nature, and demands a physical and emotional participation with the painting itself. Each piece has a variety of textural elements, from impasto, newspaper, tiny beads, sand and black lava to name a few.I build these in many layers, offering depth, and possibly something new emerges each time you look closely.I drip, pour, wash, throw and scrape to make my marks on the canvas and rarely use a brush. I love using enamel paints with their bright, glossy finish and use these constantly!
