I was born in Canandaigua, New York. My family owned cottages on the shores of Keuka Lake from the early 20s until 1982, and we moved from Mendon to Honeoye in the early 80s. I still feel a strong connection to the Finger Lakes.
My path through grad. school took me to Pennsylvania twice, and it was during my second foray that I met my wife, Traci.
We lived in the Pittsburgh area (Carnegie, to be exact) for a number of years, moved to Wheeling, West Virginia for 2 years, then moved back to Pittsburgh.
My interest in photography took a circuitous route. My father worked with Keith Smith in the 70s, 80s and 90s, and we grew to know Jeanette Klute (one of the pioneers of the dye transfer process) after we moved to Honeoye.
But ultimately it was Traci's Canon Rebel that captured my fancy. After a series of film and digital point and shoots, a myriad of opportunities missed because of low light, high speed or excessive distance convinced me that a SLR was a better alternative.
