Live on rainforest block west of Cairns, Nth.Qld. Australia. Cairns is the wettest city in Australia. My rainforest block has an average annual rainfall of 2,260 mm taken over the last 44 years. The wettest meteorogical station in Australia is at the summit of Mount Bellenden Ker [ Approx. 60 km south of Cairns] with an average annual rainfall of 8053.6 mm [ 317.07 inches].

Just to the south of Cairns are three towns [ Babinda, Innisfail, & Tully] which have the highest rainfall in Australia, & to the north is the Daintree rainforest .

There has been little research done on Fungi in the Cairns region possibly because of the distance from the nearest capitol city, Brisbane, approx. 1700 kms by plane. Luckily for me a mycologist [ Matt Barrett] has been based here since 2019.

As at 31 Aug. 2024 I have over 4,000 fungi images comprising over 550 different species on my photostream. The vast number of these are from the Cairns region. All of these are tagged [ genus & species if known--hopefully not too many mistakes] & geotagged so that you can see approximately where they have been found. The vast number of these can be viewed at calendar or poster size without losing focus. If you wish to use any of my images for educational purposes that is fine as long as you email me first [razor4343 @yahoo.com.au] & I am acknowledged as the photographer.

If you want a quick view of the diversity of the fungi that I've photographed in the Cairns region scroll down below the showcase & click onto my "tags' & click onto the tag "For Calendar" --if you wish to view a few more than this click onto the tag "For Calendar 2 ".
