I have visited churches for many years. Particularly interested how people have been commemorated in monuments, brass, stained glass etc
Who are they related to? - use the links on the description & see my "Relative Connections" album
Those caught up in the Civil War see "Not so civil war" album
Donor figures in stained glass - see "donors" galleries & album
Heraldry - see "hatchments" & "Royal Coat of Arms" albums .
Any info on the people portrayed always appreciated. Apologies for quality but hope content is of interest.

Flickr mail me if you would like to use one of my photos, I generally say yes !
In turn I would like to thank and express my great appreciation to those who have generously allowed me to use their photographs in the past in times of need, and also now I am unable to travel far
Sadly after two years battling Alzheimers my husband who for many years shared with me the journey to the many churches we visited, passed away in August 2024

Hi Jean, your truly a shining star for your diligence in taking such beautiful photos all over beautiful England. I hope one day we will meet for a coffee, tea or something stronger, so I can give you a warm embrace if you would allow it and a beautiful gift for a beautiful human being that sees beauty in the old. No words can EVER match your kindness to humanity. Sorry for going on a bit but know your hard work is much appreciated. Love Jennifer xx

Your photos make so very many invaluable historical records available, which otherwise would be unknown or in many cases inaccessible. Thank you!

Hello to all of those out there who follow the remarkable photo stream of "The Church Explorere". If you are like me, you enjoy her photos and descriptions of the villages and churches she visits so much. I was initially attracted to Jeans' work because I love British places, churches and village houses but my! was I in for a treat! Let me tell you why- this lady not only has very historical photos to let us see the antiquities inside and outside of some very old churches, she also provides a detailed and quite interesting history of the person or monument we are seeing! Bravo, Jean, for your wonderful, historic photos and stories. You are so special among Flickr members for your work! Thank you for your special photos and thank you for your history keeping. Also, you are a fine friend!! Love you, so glad I know you! Lana Pahl, Country Star Photography

I have followed Jean since 2010 and am full of admiration for her remarkable Photostream containing over 60,000 images of churches and funerary monuments from across the land. Several, if not most of these churches and monuments are sadly neglected. There is little money or the will to preserve them, and being centuries old many are now in a state of terminal decay. How long will it be before these treasures and inscriptions crumble into dust, to be forgotten forever? Therefore Jean's Photostream is an invaluable resource for historians and for amateur genealogists like myself. For her dedication and devotion to preserving the past, I think she deserves recognition and our thanks. Well done Jean!
