In 2026, I mark 48 years as an Earth Scientist—38 in the private sector and 10 in public service—working as a Geologist, Soil Scientist, and Geographic Information System Analyst. My formative years were spent on foot, mapping 169,000 acres of soils across hills and valleys with USDA/Purdue. Free from fences and political boundaries, this work was an immeasurable gift: it revealed the interconnectedness of all things and the natural variability of landscapes at a continuous, meaningful scale. These lessons have carried into every aspect of life and profoundly shaped my vision as a photographer.
For me, photography is an immediate way to communicate, to inform, and to grow.
