I spent 30 years in cytopathology, clinically screening for cancer cells. I searched for not only cellular abnormalities but for pathogens, non-cellular material, and cell patterns that, with closer inspection, took on the appearance of flowers, question marks, Christmas trees. When I retired four years ago, I started taking pictures of nature (my second husband loves the outdoors) and that hopefully explains some of my weird choices in subject matter. Without close-up photography and boredom, how many things would I have missed along the path?
