THIS PHOTOSTREAM IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF DOVIMA

I got fed up with seeing women dressed as men all the time so I started this Photo stream as a tribute to the fifties straight skirt fashions, a skirt style very popular in the mid to late fifties and favoured by my school secretary, a delightful lady who often in the course of her work, would inadvertently demonstrated the shortcomings of this skirt style.

In compiling this collection, I was struck by the stunning beauty of one of the models, which later turned out to be Dovima. I realised then that I had a rare collection of Dovima images, taken in the early fifties when she first started in advertising. It was also pointed out to me by ‘myvintagevogue’ that I also had pictures of famous models, Jean Patchett and Suzy Parker.

Most of the images on my photo stream have been scanned from adverts in hard to find 55+-year-old magazines, a tenuous media which is now deteriorating rapidly and in danger of being lost forever.

As most of the women in my photo stream have now unfortunately died, I'm now on a mission to save and restore these images as far as I can back to the original photographs, and archive them digitally before they are lost forever.

I would also like to think that this Photo stream is a tribute to the beautiful models of the fifties, (Dovima, Jean Patchett, Suzy Parker, Barbara Goalen, Evelyn Tripp, to name but a few.) who were largely anonymous in their heyday, but who's beauty and elegance is only now being discovered by the present generation, thanks to the Internet.
