Vladimir Herrera first joined the field of graphic design while he was working at a U.S. ARMY Recreation Center in Fort Clayton, Panama, in 1991. His first projects included posters and large-scale murals painted using mixed media. After that in 1994, while in school in the U.S., He worked designing La Cronica, a Hispanic newspaper in the Washington, D.C. area.

 

He continued his career in the newspaper business in Virginia Beach when he joined the Virginian-Pilot in 1995. There he won the "NewCars Magazine Cover Design Competition" and was promoted to art director. The publication was very successful in Hampton Roads and was eventually taken nationwide by Traders Inc.

 

In 1997 he moved to Europe to develop websites as a contractor for "Different View". After his stint overseas, he came back to the U.S. to work at Contract Advertising, Inc., to redesign 27 magazines targeted to trade associations. In 1999, his knowledge of web and print design enabled him to secure a position at NASA where he designed everything from award-winning websites to books, logos, interactive CDs, and exhibits.

 

In the spring of 2001, he started working for The Leadership Campaign on AIDS, a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of HIV/AIDS Policy. This position allowed him the opportunity to work with an exciting, interdisciplinary team to develop products to educate, motivate and mobilize people in preventing HIV/AIDS.

 

He next joined The Media Network during the summer of 2006, where he stepped into the role of Creative Director for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Spanish language campaign. During this time, he also worked with a variety of the company’s other clients: Montgomery County Recycling Program, The U.S. Department of Energy, The Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Health Resources and Services Administration, and Provident Bank.

 

From 2007 to 2009 he worked at the International Monetary Fund, creating and producing digital and electronic media such as websites and interactive Flash presentations. He also designed a variety of printed products ranging from book covers and fliers to posters and exhibit displays.

 

Now Vladimir works as a consultant for the World Bank and Fenton Communications.
