I joined the Flickr family in the fall of 2006. I had no clue as to what I was doing and uploaded my first pictures so large that my whole monthly quota was gone in six or seven pictures. I was in shock!

I have slowly learned about the program and during my time here in sharing and looking at others' work I have made many friends and contacts whom I appreciate very much. I have learned a great deal from others through example, kind advice and through my own trial and error. All in all it has been a very educational experience as I try to develop my own sense of vision.

I love to have people visit the photostream and look forward to comments and discussions. I am very open to advice and appreciate anyone willing to give me the time to offer it. I will do my best to respond to anyone who visits, but know that I miss some and apologize for that. It is not personal.

Most of my current work is shot around Northern Newfoundland (known as the Northern Peninsula) as that is where I live and work. Living here is a true blessing for me as I love the area and the people and would not want to be anywhere else.

My major concern is that Newfoundland's rural towns are being decimated by out-migration as young people leave to try and find work in other parts of Canada. A way of life, once so vibrant ,is rapidly disappearing as the older people die and younger people leave the towns and villages that dot the coastline of this island. My pictures tend to reflect those concerns that I have in some way I think.

Our daughter Deidre is an actor with her own life (we see her too seldom) who gets home once or twice a year and so most of the time I share my life with my friend and wife Helga.

There's something deeply personal about Hoodie's work -- his photographs put the viewer in touch with him and his unique viewpoint. Sharing his photos with us on Flickr is a means of sharing that unique viewpoint -- communicating, with his evocative portraits of time and place, a sense of deep appreciation for outport Newfoundland and a concern for its future. His photos not only illustrate its beauty but express, with great eloquence, the changes it is undergoing and the problems it faces. Hoodie's photos are far beyond merely scenic; they are character studies of a place and its people, captured with an artist's affinity for wonderful light. His work is an inspiration.

When I look at Hoodie's photo's it inspires me to want to be better. So much care goes into each of his photos that it almost puts you there while he is taking them. For the short time the Hoodie and I have been contact's, I feel a bond of friendship even though we have never meet but one day when we do, we will drink a pot of tea and eat some lassy buns and talk about the two things we love the most, our beautiful province of Newfoundland and the love we have for it. Keep posting your wonderful shots as they tie me over until I get home again.

He keeps putting up these delicious works - some of them pieces out of the past that I can relate to and others just terrific photos! So I keep dropping in on him - just for a quick visit on my way somewhere else or to someone else's photostream - and I wind up roaming around in his photostream until bedtime!

Browsing Hoodies photos will give you a good honest look at rural Newfoundland. Hoodies love for his province, home and people is evident in every shot and in his ability to communicate verbally beyond the borders of his images. You will find many stories in Hoodies photos, some happy, some sad, but all show what only a local boy could see or know. It is with great pleasure that I have met Hoodie here on Flickr. Will be looking forward to all his future photo ops. Thanks Hoodie ~ Warm Rgds :) Robin
