I took up DSLR photography on a whim that I could do better than just point and shoot – so I shopped around and decided on the camera I wanted and off I went trying to understand the intricacies of shooting with creative modes. I must say, it has been a very steep learning curve for me and still a long way to go.

When making a photograph I always try to do all the work 'in camera' as I believe this is where I can ensure I am capturing the scene as I see it before me. I am not saying that I don't process the files and adjust the levels, tweak the white balance and occasionally crop the composition to enhance it. But I keep it at that, because I want to document what my eye has seen and what I have experienced, not what a software package can achieve.

I have learnt very quickly that not all images that have taken time, skill, consideration of composition and perhaps a certain element of luck (where the weather is concerned), always receive the critique you deserve or perhaps anticipate. My experience has taught me to always make the image that you want, one that you have a connection with, not what you feel you have to take to please others, unless you are paid to do so of course.
