I first met uber-punk Paul, the legendary 59th upstart, and enfant terrible of the neo-post-modernist-anti-movement Movement... in Paris...it was just after the war. Bryan Adams was still at number one and, just down the road, the graffiti arists of Venice had just started to decorate its vernacular architecture with lurid coloured stencils which were being sold cheaply at the newly-opened Lidl Emporium of Cheap Imported Stuff. He showed me some of his work...stunning images in rustic tones, reminiscent of early Beastie Boys when they were doing their lithograph thing at CBGBs, the likes of which were impressive to a street urchin as easily impressed as I was. His work is most definitely at the cutting edge of wherever he happens to be at any given moment in time. though I'm not sure where that actually is...he won't tell me anymore. let alone what time he'll be home for dinner. He paid for the croissants and called out "Bonjour Tristesse" to a passing girl whose name was really Eric... I never saw him again, well. not until after the goldrush anyway.
