I was born in Ohio, USA, but moved to Australia a few years ago. It was like living in another world, and I wanted to share as much as I could with my family and friends back in the States. So I began taking pictures...I found it so much easier to send a photo than to try to explain things verbally. Photos became a form of communication for me, and I would attach them to emails regularly. They showed little snips of my life here in my new world, and said far more than I could ever say in words.
People enjoyed the photos, and I found I really enjoyed taking them. I've gathered hundreds over the last few years. So, when a local tourism site wanted photos of the area to display on their website, I joined flickr and started uploading my favourite snapshots.
I received a Canon DSLR camera as a gift. I began taking photos just on auto, and did this for a couple years. After joining flickr, I decided that since I had a nice camera, I might as well learn how to use the manual settings on it, and improve my skills as a photographer. This is what I've been doing for a while now. Many of my photos here are tests and experiments, as I learn. Friends and family still look at my stream, and I am still a member of the tourist site, but flickr has taken on an additional purpose for me. I display and receive input on my photos, in order to learn, as well as communicate stories and show snapshots of my life to my friends, while showing this area to the world on the tourist site. Call it multitasking. : )
I plan to continue adding and deleting photos here, since I must stay below 200. Some will tell stories, some might make you laugh, some may be pretty...and some may be horrible. So if you view my photostream, please keep in mind that this is a form of communication to me, and I am only learning fine details of the art.
I hope you enjoy these little snips of my life here in Australia! I sure do!
