Life-long Winston-Salem resident and lover of local history. Although I tend to favor the areas where I've lived or spent time around, I'll post any photos or articles of history I find interesting from all areas of Winston-Salem and the Piedmont Triad area. I seek photos of businesses from the past that may be gone but the old buildings they were in are still here, such as restaurants, grocery stores, shopping centers, gas stations, theaters, and recreation spots. Vintage images of this type from the 20th century are what I enjoy most. Unfortunately they are very hard to find, but looking for them is a treasure hunt that rewards with excitement and satisfaction when you find those long lost images.

It is best to look through my albums and collections where everything is organised by subject instead of the photostream where everything is random.

If you have any old photos in your family albums that you think I may be interested in, please let me know here on Flickr. I would love to see them.

Thanks for looking at my photo collection.

Vibraswirl, your posts bring back SO MANY MEMORIES of growing up in Winston-Salem! My mother's great uncle was Aaron Burke, who was involved in the building of Peace Haven Speedway. As a child, I started racing micro midgets in the juvenile division of the Forsyth Micro Midget Club, at a little track on J.M. Petree's farm. I drove #53, sponsored by Hillcrest Golf Course. While the micro midget track was being built on the front straight of Peace Haven Speedway, my step-father let me drive an A-Model Ford, by myself, around the 1/2-mile track. It was a rough, ruddy ride, but I loved every minute behind the wheel! My uncle used to take me to the Easter races before the track finally closed. I remember some of the accidents in the photos you've posted. So many memories!!! Many thanks for sharing these many posts! And by the way, I remember the Flamingo Drive-in, Robin Hood Drive-in, and Winston-Salem Drive-in too, but we won't go into those memories!!!
