Jacqueline Hammond
Drag to set position!
Contemporary British artist, Jacqueline Hammond, is a prolific painter with an instinctive feel for design and composition, Jacqueline is renowned for producing strong, punchy images that are rich in texture and colour, representational rather than realistic, immediate but personal. New additions to her catalogue include commissions from individual clients and high-profile brands. Her work has a commercial yet inventive edge and her success lies in versatility.
Jacqueline is a proven businesswoman. She has created a range of art-led yet functional products such as deckchairs, cushions, bags and lampshades that feature her artworks printed on to the fabric, taking fine art to a wider audience. The collection is marketed under the Smart Deco brand (www.smartdeco-style.com), sister company to Smarty Lamps (www.smartylamps.co.uk), a sculptural, retro style lighting range established in 2004.
Whether inspired by the street or the sea, Jacqueline’s work has an edge: her paintings are consistently striking. Her natural disposition is to let the paint dictate the creative process, trusting the medium and her mind’s eye to translate the vision.
Jacqueline’s inspiration comes from direct observation: subject matter is plucked from the world encountered every day. Some ideas evolve, others are reactionary. Thought-provoking themes explore today’s society, the media and cultural theory. A keen photographer, Jacqueline refers to her camera as a ‘busy artist’s sketchbook.’
Like a constant companion, her creative drive extends beyond the application of paint - it applies to everything she does.
“I achieve a real sense of pleasure from making something new, that didn’t exist in the world before and will go on, independently of me. From jewellery to television documentaries, lighting to painting, if I’m capable of so much, why should I tie myself with one brush! Like the university degree I graduated in many years ago, I am a multidisciplinary artist.
Ultimately, I paint the pictures I want to see. A good painting is one you can turn to, time and time again. Collectors of my work obviously feel the same.”
