Julian is more than a good photographer of the Brazilian Modern architecture. He has the knowledge, and I mean not only the knowledge to get superb shots: he knows his subject very well. Besides, he has the talent, as he managed to get the feeling of the space there where others left themselves mesmerized by clever compositions. The result of these many talents one can see here at the unusually high quality of his photography essays on Mr. Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture. As both an artist, an architect and a publisher, I know what I’m saying. Some people joke that as an architect Niemeyer is a great sculptor or as a sculptor he's a great architect. Such people don’t even have a clue to what his architecture is all about. They have too much reading of unimportant things, to much prejudice, and many misconceptions about the role of architecture in our lives: the result is a very shallow sensibility for Niemeyer’s feeling of space and his *feeling of measure*, a concept employed rather to poetry. They should know better after the collapse of both funcionalist era and the more recent post-modernist agenda. Niemeyer's architecture survived both.
