Hello. I live in the UK, in the Midlands. I'm an enthusiastic amateur photographer, passionate about landscape and light. I've always been drawn to the natural world - trees, water, mountains and how the weather can transform everything. There's so much stunning scenery in the world just waiting to be noticed and captured if we can.
My first contact with photography was 50+ years ago. My Brownie 44A camera wasn't much good at all, but I didn't know that then. I continued taking photos on holidays and trips with a variety of relatively cheap cameras, first slides then prints. It wasn't until the late 90s with the advent of digital technology that everything changed. First with a Canon DSLR then a mirrorless Fuji. My cameras have been busy ever since. I still enjoy that feeling of being the first person up there, waiting for the light and warmth of the morning sun. We are lucky here in the UK to be blessed with lots of beautiful coastline and scenery, some great light and frequent dramatic moody weather.
I learned two things very early on. That the most important piece of equipment you need is your eye. And - another cliché - it's all about the light. The rest is a mix of technique which can be learned and luck. In addition to photography, I've also enjoyed travelling, mostly but not exclusively in the UK. My two main interests have worked very well together.
People talk about finding your own style and I still wonder what mine is.
I returned to photography as an increasingly serious hobby after my retirement in 2014. Since then, I’ve tried to develop my skills by studying the work of other photographers and artists. As with most things in life, this will always be a work in progress.
I greatly enjoy the huge variety of beautiful photos I see on Flickr and feel I learn a lot from the many diverse talented people out there.
There are many quotes from photographers that I like, but my favourite is this one from Elliott Erwitt: “To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.”
Thanks for taking the time to view my images. I always appreciate faves and words of encouragement. I'm just happy to have this opportunity to showcase my photos of scenes that have sparked a bit of awe in me. Maybe some will do the same for you.

The pictures by Colin Bowles are a reference for me, how landscape can be staged in an almost perfect way. The pictures encourage the longing to stand in these places and to capture the soft light that surrounds the landscape. I would like to thank Colin for sharing his precious pictures with us here.
What a beautiful photo stream there are some absolutely outstanding images, the Nikon D850 really is quality, but in the hands of Colin you can see how he makes it shine to it's full potential, one I hope I can be this good !!
Beautiful gallery, with many very nice landscape (and others) compositions!
