Tom Clifford paints scenes rich with historical references brought vividly into the 21st Century.

He focuses on the effect of light and his technique of letting brush strokes stay in the paintings with thin layers of oil is startlingly realistic.

His next exhibitiion is named “Screen”, as each painting has a distinctive cinematic feel. In some pictures as in the series “Freedom From The Known”, he uses a thin black border to focus the eye on the wonderfully lit seas, giving a three dimensional effect.

Tom says “My art reflects my concerns and interests as a human being-like who are we and how do we find lasting peace?”.

Tom was born in south east London in 1975 where he lives and paints now. In 1994 he completed a foundation course at Central St Martins followed by a three year degree at City and Guilds of London Art School. He has painted and exhibited continuously ever since. His practice is mainly oil painting but his drawing, film and music making increasingly influence and inspire his working practice.
