Historic Congressional Cemetery is America's first truly national cemetery, established in 1807 to serve the growing needs of the new capital city. Its 35 acres are the final resting place for 55,000 individuals, although only 14,000 headstones were erected in their memory. Owned by Christ Church on Capitol Hill, the cemetery is managed by the Association for the Preservation of Historic Congressional Cemetery, a 501(c)3 organization. The photographs here represent the beauty of its grounds, the on-going restoration efforts, and the community calls Congressional its own.
