Fahkwang Waldorf Preschool Follow Waldorf Education : Toward Freedom with Love
Philosophy
• Prepare children as a whole human-being
• Promote physical development by haviing good food, regular exercise. Support the children to be able to become self-reliance such as eating, dressing and using toilet by themselves.
• Promote emotional development by providing enjoyable, beautiful homely and natural surrounding and experience artistic activities such as: painting, singing, verse and story telling.
• Promoting social skill development, sharing, repecting others, self discipline, accepted social behaviors.
• Prepare the children to develop intellectually in the later stage by promoting concentration, listening and speaking skill of mother-toung language, maintaining sense of wonder.
• Fah-Kwang Preschool emphasized on children free play, Play is the most wonderful learning process for young children. There are some notices about play and activities in the preschool as follow:
• Use simple natural materials such as wood, stone, shell, color cotton for toys which give space for children imagination. The finished and instant toys which have no space for that will get the children bored easily. If the children can use their imagination and make things up by themselves, they will feel satisfied, enjoyable, challenging. They can learn many things which will be a good foundation for various subject: mathematics, physics, biology etc, they will learn in the future. During play, the force of creativity is flowing. Teacher can also evaluate children development through observing their play.
• Teacher as a good model and children are natural imitators. When the children see adult as a good model, for example using hands for: domestic works, fixing things, create things etc, besides seeing what the adult does, they can also sense what happen in the soul of the adult such as the intention, preserverance and confidence. This inflence will reflect in children play and how they do thing in every day life. Good models from adults around them will help the children to have good habits later on.
• Self discipline in young children comes from imitation the patterns of doing things done by adults around them. In other word, they imitate self discipline of adults. When the children do things the same way again and again, the pattern of doing things get into them voluntarily. Living in regular reutines (daily, weekly, yearly) as provided in waldorf kindergarten and participating in various chores such as tidy up, put away toys, set dining table, sweep the floor, wipe the table, clean dishes are also promoting self-discipline.
• Sharing and supporting community : Each class has children from 2-6 year old living together like brothers and sisters in the same family. They will learn from each other. The elder learn to take care of the younger, The younger learn how to do thing from the elder. This will create sharing and supporting community. The social skill is promoting.They can learn how to be helpful for others as well.
