Tribal Warrior Association
Drag to set position!
The Tribal Warrior Association Inc. (TWA) is a non-profit organisation initiated and directed by Aboriginal people, with Aboriginal Elders at its helm. Based in Sydney, NSW, the Association was established to promote and spread Aboriginal culture, and to provide economic and social stability for the community. TWA provides certification level maritime training for employment skills and extends everyday practical assistance by supporting and mentoring underprivileged people in need.
TWA uses two vessels, the Tribal Warrior (originally the San Nicola) , and the Deerubbun for maritime training, corporate charters and daily cultural cruises in Sydney Harbour.
The Management Committee of the Association includes grassroots Aboriginal people from various areas and respected Elders. Since its inception, the Tribal Warrior Association has been strongly supported by the local indigenous community.
Two primary objectives are to promote a consciousness for maritime vocations among Aboriginal people and to facilitate social and cultural exchange between Aboriginal peoples, especially those of the interior, with those of the East Coast.
With limited resources, the Association has achieved some remarkable outcomes:
Positioned the Tribal Warrior as Australia’s only authentic Aboriginal Sydney Harbour tour operator
Completed a successful goodwill circumnavigation of Australia, encouraging Aboriginal communities they visited to take leadership roles in the maritime tourist industry, in their respective areas
Trained more than of 600 students to marine certification status, many of whom have found gainful long term employment
