I am a taphophile…
While doing research for a history project I was involved with I visited a local cemetery. At first I was amazed by the natural beauty of one of the oldest Victorian Garden Cemeteries in the country, but as I looked for the headstones I needed for my project I was captivated by the cemetery itself. The beautiful carvings and intriguing epitaphs caught my imagination. A tour sponsored by the cemetery heightened my awareness of the history behind the people buried there. I was hooked, my original project forgotten.
I am now a student of Victorian Cemetery Symbolism and cemetery monuments in general. I have taken more than 10,000 photos in that one cemetery alone, and have visited many, many others in my travels, including the Valley of the Kings, where I was able to visit Tutankhamen’s tomb.
