I love to sew, quilt, cook, bake, read, sing, listen to music, play my guitar when I am well enough, travel, spend time with family, and love on my grandbabies. I'm married to the most tolerant and loving man on the face of the earth. I enjoy the company of my cats and chickens when nobody else is around. I can be very sensitive about certain things and tend to hide my hurts inside, though I am learning not to do that. I don't like offending others and will go out of my way to keep the peace.

I started sewing when I was 10 years old and am forever grateful to my Mom for teaching and encouraging me in those early years. The skills I developed enabled me to clothe my kids in nice clothes even when I was a single mom and didn't have two pennies to rub together for several years. I learned by necessity, made buttonholes by hand, and my kids loved that they had clothes unlike anyone else's. I shopped in the clearance fabric aisle and got good fabric for discount prices, turning it into something useable and attractive that belied our living situation. I spent countless hours doing alterations, making stuffed bunny clothes, making clothing for others and mending to make an extra dollar or two during our years of leanness. It did indeed turn out to be quite a profitable skill set in spite of the frustration it causes when I can't make all my projects come out perfectly.

My sewing addiction has blossomed since the advent of my disability in 2005. I now have 4 machines - a Kenmore 385, a Janome QC4800, a Janome Harmony serger, and a Morita Special SRB157 coverstitch machine a good friend blessed me with. I am learning to do things I never thought of doing when I learned to sew, including (and I know this dates me) using the automatic buttonhole feature - now this one, at least, I've been doing for a while.

I enjoy making new things for the grandkids because they are very forgiving and really appreciate everything I make for them. My adult children also like the things I make for them, especially the quilts.
