I am not an Artist. I'm not even much of a photographer. I thought I had potential when I signed up for Flickr a few years ago, but since then I've seen real art. I've seen the way a lot of the rest of you find things out there in the world to turn into subjects that I'll never see on my own. And then your talent, which enables you to take these interesting subjects and twist the light-space continuum to your will to produce amazing images.
I am, however, a Dork. Maybe Geek is more acurate. To wit, I am an engineer by trade, I still like slide rules, I was in high school marching band (and liked it), I make corny jokes on other people's photo streams, and I don't embarrass easily. To add to that, I was born in Canada (Calgary) to a canadian father and american mother. Not sure if that adds to my dorkness index, but it might.
I've begun taking pictures this last decade only after getting my first digital camera. So I've never learned film photography. But, being a geek, I don't let that stop me from taking a lot of pictures.
My Stream is full of pictures of ... whatever stikes me as interesting. There's a lot of "Well, thats something you don't see everyday" and scenery of places I've been. I am learning about framing shots, and have begun to play around in my photo-editing software (Photo Studio - it came with my Sony). I kinda like the results I've been getting.
UPDATE on My Stream: I get the damnedest things pop into my head. I've spent my lifetime (61 years and counting) trying to keep these things away from other folks. They aren't spooky or shameful, just dorky and wierd and annoying. Most of it is drivel, and it's like being around an ADHD 9-year old. But being on FLICKR has been therapeutive, and I am now not ashamed of these wierd things as much. It's just me. Some of the wierd stuff can be expressed as graphic stuff, so I bring all my meager creative resources to bear when creating the graphic that comes to me. This has brought me to start a set in my Stream called Dunno -- just came to me..."".
