Artist statement;

I use my camera as a means of self-expression. I make pictures for myself. I use it to gain a better understanding of the world outside my body and mind. I use photography as a means of documenting and interpreting the world around me. I love seeing and recording changes in light, and shadows. I love the patterns that are created by artifacts such as fences, train tracks and architectural structures. I enjoy the endless differences in textures. In my macro photography my goal is to draw the viewer into the unseen and unnoticed world. I focus on details in the moment and preserve it for the future. I see the flower, but the parts that make up the flower captivate me. Sometimes my photographs show the passage of time, the change from light to dark. These changes display a mood created by the changes in light and time. My ultimate goal is to preserve these moments in time and place and space and create a sense of order and beauty out of chaos.

Hello, I am Bob Culver, Photographer.

I started taking photographs when I was around 12 when I went to Washington, DC on a class trip. I had a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye, my father gave to me. I think it was his camera originally and I still have it. I did not take photography seriously though until I went into the Navy and was stationed in WestPAC, Vietnam campaign. I went to school on the GI bill, graduated from Brooks Institute, majored in illustration. I ended up in the electronics industry, another passion of mine. I am currently working in an “electronic test equipment engineering and manufacturing firm” as a Manufacturing Engineer and the Metrology Manager.

As you can see from my work, I enjoy photographing flowers, macro’s of anything interesting, landscapes, architecture and I work with High Dynamic Range Imaging and Tone-mapping. Up until 2005, I used my trusty Nikon F Photomic. Since film was rather expensive, I limited my picture taking. But in 2005 I purchased my D70s which set me free. Most of which you see in my collection will be digital photos. I have since upgraded to a Nikon D300 and loving it.

Enjoy, Bob Culver
