We are the largest celebration of the written word in the world.

The Edinburgh International Book Festival takes place every August in a magical tented village in the beautiful Charlotte Square Gardens, right in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland's vibrant captial city.

Over 17 days hundreds of novelists, illustrators, politicians, poets, philosophers, artists, scientists and journalists travel from across the world take part in over 700 events for readers and book lovers of all ages. Audiences can find themselves in readings and workshops, take part in a masterclasses or a debate, get a book signed by their favourite author or experience the unexpected in our late night Unbound events.

There's plenty of tasty food and drink to enjoy too, and three big bookshops to browse in a lovely, leafy garden setting.

Our programme is announced in late June and tickets go on sale shortly after.
