Glenister Prime Minister
Drag to set position!
This is a fan's accumulation of all things PG. No money is made from it.
I first spotted Philip Glenister in ITV's 'Hornblower' in 1999 and then BBC's 'Clocking Off' series in 2001. I have a soft spot for characters which encapsulate real life but still ooze charisma and these are the characters best suited to Philip's acting style. In other words, good acting is sexy!!! (Even when he plays a baddie like Gunner Hobbs in Hornblower).
I was intrigued to find 'Clocking Off' made way for other acting jobs for Philip including 'Island at War', 'The Vice' and 'Vincent'.
I love how Philip developed the character Gene Hunt in the BBC series 'Life on Mars' to become stratospheric in 'Ashes to Ashes' and to work on other acting projects as well including 'Calendar Girls' and 'The Other Boleyn Girl' but also narration projects including 'Lost Land of the Volcano' a nature documentary which follows an expedition team of zoologists to central Papua New Guinea (amazing wildlife rediscovered including a rare type of tree possum--cutest thing ever).
Philip worked on a yet unnamed Woody Allen film in London - August 2009 and I think still filming Series 3 of 'Ashes to Ashes' - January 2010. Fans got a Christmas 2009 treat by M&S featuring Philip in their Christmas Wouldn't Be Christmas campaign where Philip appeared in full Gene Hunt mode, sparking a 'storm in a teacup' from some TV viewers that his lines in the are sexist. Eight complaints from a country of 61m is truly ridiculous!!!
You could say I am an appreciative FanGirl of Philip Glenister on many levels. I would Quattro Clooney, Pitt and Depp to get to Glenister. Philip is like a fine wine, getting better with age. He's a national treasure! I'm delighted that he decided to live and work and woo us in the UK rather than head to Hollywood. They don't deserve him!!! I think any Americanisation of Philip's acting talent would have watered him down.
That said, I am not a stalker and am happy to share Philip Glenister with fans from all over the world. I'm glad that he is happily married to his lovely wife, Beth Goddard who is also an actress. The couple have two small daughters of whom he is obviously devoted. I am also a fan of Philip's older brother, Robert Glenister who is also a successful actor in his own right.
There's just something about a bloke who is beautifully flawed and sexy as hell. It's the acting talent that makes him stick out amongst his so-called peers. Philip is a slow-burning ember who thinks that Gene Hunt will be his finest role but I disagree. I'd like to see him on the big screen in something truly suited to his acting talents.
