"I only went out for a short walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, I was really going in.” (John Muir)

I live in a village about 8 miles south west of Edinburgh at the foot of the Pentland Hills, where I spend a lot of time, walking and looking at the natural history of the area. Many of the photographs I post will be of this area, which has been my home for 25 years. I spend a lot of time, too, exploring the coastal habitats nearby, and whenever possible, the highlands and islands to the north west.

I'm not a great tethnical photographer, but the images I post will all be speaking of things that, in some way or another, I've seen beauty in, or have found interesting. The photos I admire of others, are, similarly, those that speak to me of what that person saw at that moment in time, and what they were trying to convey - however imperfect. I like photographers who break the rules, and who are not tied by conventions. Writing this, I'm reminded of a verse by Leonard Cohen which I think is apposite:

"Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything.

That's how the light gets in.

."

'Anthem' by Leonard Cohen 1992

Testimonials

The blessing of Janette's images are that one gets a glimpse into the details of the world before our eyes, and manages to stir our eyes into that aha beauty feeling that inspires the muse in me.

I was very embarrassed to not write until this time. Mrs. Janette is a wonderful person, feeling the artistic reality that we cannot see and reflecting on her photographs. Besides her artistry; she is a true lady, a very beautiful friend with her elegance and kindness. I consider myself very lucky to know this lady. Always be with us with peace of mind and health, dear Janette! Warm regards.

"Edinburgh Nette" - Janette - magnifies the hidden glories of nature in her local environment - hidden, that is to most of us, but not to her patient, vigilant, and astute eye, and masterful manner of giving expression - far beyond mundane representation - to what she observes. Her work is lyrical, vibrant, teeming with life, refreshing to the eye, the mind, and the soul. Anyone who allows themselves to dwell in her photostream will find themselves coming away refreshed, inspired, and more hopeful about the inherent goodness to be found in the natural environment. She also remembers others with who she has interacted on line, and conveys from time to time signs of her interest in more than a person's photographs, but rather the well-being of that person. Her contacts can count themselves fortunate. I do!

NETTE is truly a master at capturing the intricate beauty of mother nature, as it is the heart and soul of her being. Every beautiful image is worthy of hanging in an art gallery - and then there are the many exceptional masterpieces that simply take your breath away
