My name is Agung Parameswara, Bali-based freelance photographer with specializing social cultural issues, travel, documentary, and photojournalism. My work intensively explore about the Bali Island and Indonesia with passion in capturing culture, folklore, landscape, and human.

 

I was born in Bali Island in 1990. I took my first degree at Economic Study, Udayana University and now continuing to Master Degree on the same subject. Alongside my study, i really love and interest with culture and art. My interests are perhaps due to my mother since she is a social and cultural lecture in a University beside, my father is an archeologist and also my family members in my hometown mostly are traditional Balinese dancers. Through photography i have been step into these world and seriously use photography as the media to articulate and express my personal thought.

 

I learns photography by my self by reading books, got photography fellowships and workshops and also practicing. To produce a creative idea and work is a challenge to me and therefore i should keep learning and searching to get something new and different.

 

From my photographic journey, i start my career as a freelance photographer in 2010. My works have been published in International media such as The New York Times, TIME Lightbox, Stern, Days Japan Magazine, Terra Mater Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Daily Mail UK, The Age Australia, The Washington Post, The Jakarta Post, SEA Globe Magazine, National Geographic Traveler Indonesia, Rhytm Montly Magazine, Travel 3 Sixty Magazine, and many others.

 

During my career i also received awards:

 

2016 - Best Tourism photo ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA) Award in Manila Philippines.

2015 - 3rd Winner Picture of The Year Getty Images Asia Pasific.

2015 - Jury’s special award in Humanity Photography Award in Yunnan, China.

2014 - Documentary award architecture category in Humanity Photography Award in Beijing, China.

2014 - Jury’s special award and documentary award architecture category in Humanity Photography Award in Beijing, China.

2013 - 1st winner Indonesia Photojournalism Award category art and Entertaiment from Indonesian Photojournalism Association.

2012 - 1st winner Indonesia Photojournalism Award category art and Entertaiment from Indonesian Photojournalism Association.

Workshop

 

2015 - Schoolarship Foundry Photojournalism Workshop in Bali, mentored by James Whitlow Delano, Thorne Anderson and Khael Alford. Agung received predicate the best student on their class.
