Personal and Professional Vision Statement
Submitted By John K. Dennington
December 2008
My personal and professional vision priorities are to be a loving husband and good father first, an ethical employee second, and to practice active citizenship third.
As a loving, faithful, supportive husband I will continue to help create a family and home that is caring, peaceful, nurturing, and lasting. I will continue taking my responsibilities to our marriage very seriously. Together with Sharon, I want to raise three happy, healthy children and support their moral, intellectual, ethical, and social growth. I want our children to grow up to be good responsible human beings and citizens. I will tell Sharon I love her everyday, go on “dates” with her and encourage her and our children to never give up.
I want to advance to the Associate Principal position of Weidlinger Associates Inc. in the District of Columbus. I will make the most of my education and experience to advance the knowledge of my fellow coworkers and will persuade others to strive to make WAI the BEST (cutting edge/innovative) structural engineering firm in the World. After I am forced to retire at the age of 70, I will actively work for a national organization such as AISC or ASCE and create a network of colleagues and mentors to facilitate the professional growth and development of other architects and structural engineers.
As long as I’m physically able to I want to continue to utilize the skills I’ve learned as a baseball player and have refined as a manager of little league and babe ruth teams for over twenty years to continue tutoring future generations of youth people in baseball/softball. I do not see why every citizen cannot give back to his or her community by donating their money, time, and/or expertise.
Recent economic issues have damaged our 401(k). It should probably now be called a 201(k). I believe that it rebound and provide the needed finances allowing Sharon and I to pursue any interests we will want in retirement. We will never accept the term "the declining years" and will be enthused about preparing for how we want to thrive in the next third of our lives.
