Redditch Library is one of the largest in lovely leafy Worcestershire - built in the mid-1970s, we serve both the local community and visits and contacts from around the world.
Redditch Library is about to receive a facelift as a major refurbishment gets underway. Over the months to Spring 2010 both the interior and exterior of the building are to be refreshed and refurbished to make the service bigger, brighter, friendlier and more accessible for the thousands who visit every week.
Some of the planned improvements include:
A new Quick Pick section
Meeting Space – a brand new exhibition, meeting and gallery area
A glass lift connecting all public floors
4 new public toilets – including Baby Change facilities on the ground floor and Disabled facilities on both ground and first floors
New space for 13-18 year olds
Completely redesigned Children's Library
A Read and Relax area on the ground floor, offering newspapers and a selection of reading materials from around the library
Work on the refurbishment will be carried out in phases so the Library can remain open as far as possible whilst improvements are in progress. For the majority of this period at least one floor of the Library will be open providing all services in one place. It will be necessary to close the Library for short periods to enable services to be relocated within the building – however, closures are being kept to a minimum.
This photo album has been set up to give a flavour of the refurbishment as it progresses - we'll generally update once a week focusing on the changes since the last update.
