I am a Birding Photographer.

I am not a "Bird Photographer."

Experiencing the bird in its natural environment comes first, then if I can capture that moment with a photo, all the better.

So sometimes my photos are just 'recording shots' rather than having real artistic value.

I love capturing birds through photos and I will post poor quality photos if it is a bird, or something about the bird that I want to record in the photostream. Often I will include a rather large series of a bird if it is new to me, or interesting for some other reason (I would call them "studies" if I took myself more seriously).

All my shots are hand-held and I do not use a flash. I won't (never say never) be carrying a tripod into the field. I need to be able to move about and experience the birds.

Reality is not static and photography can allow a record of what it was for a moment. These moments can be art... whether they are reality depends upon timing and perspective.

I love both photography and art. I see the difference between the two as... In photography, the subject is more important than the image. In art, the image is more important than the subject (of course they can coexist at times).

A look through my favorites will show what I find exceptional and beautiful.
