Within today's rapidly changing and turbulent society it is important for contemporary designers to be innovative and thoughtful in their practice.

The area of Contemporary Design is vast, providing employment in a diverse range of fields from the designing and making of 'one off' artefacts to becoming members of design teams in industry.

This course encourages awareness and understanding of the most current debates and practices within professional contemporary design.

The studio is open plan and operates as a professional design practice.

Each student is expected to originate creative ideas that are unique to themselves.

Experimentation, idea origination and professional practice are central to the course philosophy.

The course focus is to facilitate and develop intellectual design individuals that have a clear cultural awareness through literature, sociology, philosophy, anthropology and material culture.
