I started taking pictures when I was about 10. My 1st camers were 110's. I took pictures of the places we would go on vacation, the people, just about anything. Did it for the memories.
I meet a guy in High school that had a darkroom. We would go out and shoot a roll of black&white, develop the negatives, but only print one or two because of the cost. This is where I got bitten by the photography bug.
After I graduated college and got a job, I moved up to my 1st SLR, a Pentex K1000. I got a cheap telephoto and a flash and took even more pictures of people and places. But again, the cost of printing took its toll on how many shots I took. Unless you had a darkroom, you had to print everything just to see it. When my kids were growing up I took a lot of pictures, most didn't turn out because I forgot something important (adjust the shutter speed for sports, set the shutter speed wrong for the flash, etc). Just no way to see the results right away and adjust. I got disappointed and just about gave up taking pictures.
I have since moved on to digital. I have an Olympus E500 kit with a couple of lens. WOW I love digital, I take many more pictures and print a lot less. If I make a mistake, I can see it right away and make adjustments. Now, I actually go out and take pictures for the sake of (hopefully) capturing interesting things. I have been concentrating on flowers since I have an abundance around my home.
I have a friend that saw what I had and decided to go digital too. Now we share equipment and go shooting together. Makes it much more fun.
I'm learning just how much I don't know about taking pictures, composure, lighting, etc. My goal is to improve my skills. I use Flickr to poke around and see what others are doing, get ideas, and read the Exif data to see how the pictures were taken.
You can view my pictures all you want, even tell others about them, but they are mine and unless you have my express permission, you can not use them for any other purpose.
