I recently purchased my first DSLR ( in May 09), a Canon XSi. I decided it was time to get a real camera and not one that does video, voice, makes e-mail packages and cooks your dinner ( I wish!). I am reading a lot and putting the camera guide books under my pillow in hopes of absorbing the 'ins and outs' of having the capability of changing settings and lenses.

My first digital camera was an Epson, not sure which model but the viewfinder slid on and off the side of the camera if one wanted to use it. That thing ate up the batteries! After that I got a Sony Mavica FD-91 , the storage media was a floppy disk ( remember those?). Paid nearly 1K for the thing. I loved the 14X optical zoom on that camera! I still have this camera, someone please take it off my hands!

After the Sony I moved on to a Canon PowerShot A95 . It survived a few bumps, enough to ding the case a bit and still work great. Then one day I was taking a picture and dropped the camera 'face first' four inches, literally, onto a soft dog bed. After that the lens wouldn't retract. I sold it for parts on e-bay. I liked it so much ( not to mention I have the underwater case) I risked breaking the rules at work and got online to be on e-bay at the end of the auction for another A95. I won that auction too! Sometimes I am tempted to get a new Canon point-and-shoot and save the A95 for underwater. It's safe to say I am a Canon girl all the way ( Dear Nikon and others, I dare you to send freebies and try to change my mind! And while you're at it please send a kick-A$$ macro lens!$ :) ).

I am a pediatric nurse, have been since 1989. Graduated from the Univ. of New Mexico, College of Nursing . Spent most of my career at Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, KY working on a medical floor that specializes in cystic fibrosis and diabetes but also included a broad spectrum of illnesses. I am still there and am currently on the I.V Team. Married since 1984 (you do the math), my husband teases and says "you'll take a picture of anything", to which I reply "yes I will".

I like taking pics outdoors. I like taking close-up pictures the most and am drooling for a good macro lens. I don't often touch up my pictures before I upload them. Maybe a little contrast or brightness but nothing extreme. Doesn't mean I won't use photoshop at all, just not every time and probably not to the extreme. I more than welcome comments, critiques, and suggestions.
