3D mandalas on 2D surfaces. The structure of mandalas can hold a lot of meaning in their mathematics, symbolism and color. Brett tries to maximize this to express significant meaning in simple combinations of 3D geometries and color. It is in meditation that he visions many of these structures. They have induced meditative feelings in people who stare at them. His goal is to help induce meditative states for healing, insight and learning with his mandalas

Brett grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada with a father that had him working at an early age, often in ways that exercised his mathematical and engineering skills. After renovating his mobile home, left over materials inspired him to take his mandalas from 2D to 3D using tiles, mirrors, drywall mud and styrofoam.

Project Description:

Medium: This collection of work is made on wood, most of them being 1½ inches thick (door panels), ranging from 18x78 to 18x11 inches. They all use the same colors of red, blue and white, with the exception of one exchanging white for lite tan. There are 4 different tile types, 3 mirror types and 3 pieces with significant dry wall mud structuring.

Concept: To help induce meditative states, insight and healing using the mandalas. Music, colored lighting will also be applied to obtain these goals if possible. Beside the art pieces and in various locations within the where the colored lights could be directed, power messages and statements that compliment the general feel of the exhibit will be placed (ex. quotes).

Since these art pieces are 3D, positioning of the lighting can create shadows that compliment the mandalas symmetry. This unique feature can be played with in many ways.

Artist Statement:

To give the audience an enlightening experience that inspires them well beyond their time at the exhibit.

CV:

Brett is an emerging artist that has been creating art since 1996. His experience with mathematics, engineering and the materials he works with extend back to my early childhood as his father always had him working with such materials and concepts at an early age.

Seven years of study at the University of Saskatchewan in Quantum Science and Neuroscience, numerous related jobs and projects developed a strong foundation of natural symmetries and mathematics that his mandalas continue to evolve to contain. These natural balances also hold spiritual significance to some viewers.

His potential for the future is great, he has also been gifted over 15 doors to continue to make more of his mandalas, which will contain 3 new concepts that are awaiting to be explored!

He has also written 2 books that require DVDs and figures to be created that use editing software that makes metaphysical energies visible on the screen, which will become a collection of still and moving digital art for exhibits in the future.
