A lifelong photographer, mainly interested in steam railways, shipping and some landscape photography. I bought an Zenith E SLR in 1970, replacing that with a Pentax SP1000 in 1975 and, around 1980, I switched again, to Oympus OM1 and OM2 cameras. I 'went digital' in 2008, initially with a Canon 40D, and I now have a Canon 7D with Canon 24-105mm lens. If only I could do it all again with the current equipment!
My only real 'gripe' about the digital equipment is reliability! I've had two aperture mechanism failures, one on the 24 - 105 and the other on a Canon 17-85 EFS lens that I bought with the 40D. As I write this in 2017, that lens is awaiting repair. Since the 24-105 repair cost me £170 I'm in no hurry to spend more than the lens is worth on repair. I only ever had one lens problem with the Olympus system, when a standard lens diaphragm began to stick, but I was able to fix that myself.
