Dorinda Bender's Quilts
Dorinda Bender
November 24, 1948 - October 15, 2008
Dorinda was diagnosed with ALS in 2007. Her son, Phil, is one of my closest friends, and he moved up north to help take care of her. I visited several times and got to see Dorinda's amazing quilt collection. We started emailing each other about quilts, and I asked her to tell me the stories of each quilt. Quilts are made with love and they always have such great stories.
These are her quilts, and her stories.
"THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER QUILT PROJECTS THAT I GAVE AWAY BEFORE PHOTOGRAPHING. AN AMERICAN FEATHERED STAR WALLHANGING FOR A JAPANESE FRIEND, BEGUN BEFORE 9/11 AND COMPLETED DEC 2001, A CHRISTMAS BOX WALLHANGING FOR A CHURCH AUCTION, 2 PILLOWS WITH APPLIQUED HAWAIIAN QUILT DESIGNS FOR A SECRET PAL, VARIOUS BLOCKS MADE AS TRIALS THAT BECAME HOT PADS AND GIVEN FOR CHURCH CRAFT BAZAARS OR MINI-GIFTS. AND CHRISTMAS STOCKINGS FOR JOE AND SARA AND REZNIK(THEIR CAT), DAN BRENDA AND VICTOR. I ALSO HAND QUILTED A QUILT THAT WAS MADE OF EMBROIDERED SQUARES THAT MY SISTER-IN-LAW DID. PROBABLY SOME OTHER PROJECTS TOO. LOVE, DORINDA"
If you have photos of any of these projects, please contact me and I'll be happy to add them to this showcase.
