Born in Kent, Moved to Cumbria in 2002. Married with a family.

Worked on the Railways since leaving school and carried a camera at work for many of those years which has often allowed me access to railway locations not normally available to the general public so the main focus of my Flickr site is railways although you will find a mix of other subjects by viewing the albums section.

I have been based at the following traincrew depots which will give you a flavour for images taken at work.

Maidstone West, 1983-85.

Tonbridge, 1985-2000.

London Blackfriars, 2000-2002.

Carlisle (EWS), 2002-2009.

Kingmoor Yard (DB Schenker) 2009-2015.

Kingmoor TMD (DRS), 2015-2017.

Kingmoor Yard (DB Cargo), 2017 - present day.

My 'Buddy Name' is derived from the West Cumbrian term for a friend or mate, e.g. Hi Marra ! (a common expression in West Cumbria where I now live).

Main photo interests are : Railways (any shape or form), Commercial Shipping, Landscapes & Industrial Heritage.

Camera : Currently using a Canon 6D and Canon EOS 300D, the 300D tends to be the work bag camera these days. I joined the digital age quite late in February 2009. Prior to that its been Praktica MTL3, Praktica MTL5B and Olympus OM10. Using initially Perutz CT100 then Agfa CT100 35mm slide film before finishing up on Fuji and Kodak Ektachrome. Any shots prior to March 2009 are scanned on a Plustek 7200 Silverfast scanner and more recently a Plustek 8200i (as the 7200 died). Any processing is kept to a minimum but 35mm slide scans tend to see tweaks in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom-4 and Noiseware from Imaginomics.
