English PEN is the founding centre of International PEN, the worldwide fellowship of writers. We campaign for Free Speech and the promotion of literature.

We have five core programmes:

Writers in Prison - Campaigning for the rights of persecuted writers overseas

UK Campaigns - Promoting and expanding the space for Free Expression in the UK

Readers & Writers - Creative writing and reading worksops with disadvantaged groups in the UK

Writers in Translation - Promoting translation of literature into English

Writers in Public - Events with prominent authors and cultural figures.
