I am a human being like you. I have a spirit, possibly a soul; clearly a functional mind. A member of the Woodstock generation, I am now retired after a wildly varied and rich professional life. Before that I was a student, then a soldier, and then a student again—and so I will ever remain. I am a husband thrice over, a father, a grandfather, a brother, a friend of the friendly, a lover of life, a striver for truth, an admirer of music and art—indeed an artist myself. I am a scientist and a philosopher by nature, education, and training. I believe in the existence of the good in people and the harmony of nature, of which we are a part. I believe there is no evil in the universe, but only random natural events and some human behaviors given that name by us that we attach to such things we don’t understand, accept, or like. The universe does not exist for us; we are only in it, a part of it. Reality is what exists whether we exist or not and so truth does likewise.
